In the first section I talked about the ‘Day1 Deal’ but I didn’t talk about the story behind the name; Day1.
Why did I choose the name Day1?
Part of it, referring back to the previous section, is about, on Day 1 of a project, having the right product, people and approach. But there is something else, what I call the ‘Day1 Way’. This is all about what is in my/your head. The mental approach to any project. The mental approach is all about continuous learning and improvement.
For us, every day is like Day 1 of the Project.
You will all have experienced what this means. Day 1 of any project is the most exciting day of all.
One of my favourite programs on TV is ‘Grand Designs’. I am sure you know the program. Two people have massively ambitious plans to build an amazing huge house that has all the latest gizmos and modern building facilities you can possibly think of. Then the presenter comes along, sneers at their plans and budget, then they spend an hour tracking the trials and tribulations of the project. At the end the presenter comes back and has to admit; “yes they have made a fantastic job of it”.
But what is interesting is that on Day 1 of their project, everything is possible. That’s really interesting. And by the end, these people with amazing vision actually get what they set out to achieve.
What we try to do here at Day1 is reproduce that sense of excitement that every project has on Day 1. On Day 1 anything is possible. You can set your dreams as high as you like. Providing you keep that in focus, day in, day out, and you treat every day like Day 1 when anything is possible; then you will get there. Just like the couples in ‘Grand Designs’ who set out to build an amazing dream house.
It’s all about your mental approach. The mental approach of keeping the vision fresh every single day.
Making sure you learn from the mistakes that every project will make along the way. The biggest mistake of all is not to recognise your mistakes and to avoid repeating them in future. We all make mistakes, it happens. It doesn’t matter how experienced we think we are, there are things we don’t know until we start the project. We always learn on every project. It’s simply not possible to know everything you need to know to complete a project, before you start it. There will always be the unexpected, it’s how you deal with that that makes the difference.
Having the ‘Day 1’ mentality of ‘anything is possible’ and that ‘stuff is going to happen’ is what helps you get over the unexpected and the problems. Making sure that you approach every day with that positive excited feeling; that feeling when you come into work in the morning, just like the couples seeing their new house being built, that feeling of complete utter excitement, the thrill.
That’s the ‘Day1 Way’.
Every day is a thrill.
Every day we are working on a project, anything is possible; providing you are prepared to see it, and that starts in your head, with your mental approach.
The ‘Day1 Way’ is to treat every day like the first day. Full of endless possibilities and excitement. When we can do anything to achieve your vision.
Now read on, the next section is all about the ‘Day1 Difference’. How do we turn the ‘Day1 Way’ into a reality for you.
